With great local resources behind us, Steve will be hosting small groups of anglers deep into the unspoilt rainforests of Colombia, on the Rio Orinoco for Payara/Vampire Fish and it's tributaries for huge Peacock Bass and many other species. The Rio Orinoco is renowned for its spectacular Payara fishing, and these silver missiles attack lures and flies with gusto. Payara to over 30lbs are regularly caught here.
The Rio Orinoco, is also well known for fabulous Sardinata action, and there are plenty of those wily critters to target. And if that's not enough, lets not forget some of the bigger residents!! Big Catfish (Jau, Piraiba and Redtail) can also caught here in the deep holes and where there is current and structure.
It's tributaries such as the Rio Tomo and Rio Mesetas run through virgin rainforest, with beautiful lagoons and streams. Huge Peacock Bass inhabit these lagoons and river points, sand bars etc, along with many more trophy species.
These trips are suitable for singles, couples, or groups. They are set around either 6 day or 10 day trips. Use the 'Contact us' button below to request more information or to place a booking.
February 2022
Having lost the Feb 2021 trip due to the pandemic, it was great to get back to the Orinoco and its tributaries. But the water levels were just so low, with the majority of the large Peacocks moving out of the lagoons to the main river. The Orinoco performed well, and again the fly fishers had some great results. So plenty of Payara and such great sport with the Sardinata.
Very few tried for the catfish, although I did get a new species the 'Piramutaba', a very close relative of the Piraiba.
On the whole, a fabulous trip, from the minute we arrived in Bogota and then throughout. Colombia is such an incredible country, and you should never be put off by historical perceptions over safety.
We had a great group, represented by the USA, Canada and of course the EU and GB.
Steve again provided the hosting throughout, and it was great having his experience there with us.
For me 9/10, the one point loss was due to the lower than normal water levels, which did present a challenge, but was unavoidable and impossible to predict.

The gallery below provides a 'snapshot' of the last trip to the River Orinoco and River Tuparro.
Very lucky to get the opportunity to get down to Colombia on this one, joining up with clients from the UK, Canada and Australia. A great mix of expert anglers of differing backgrounds with proficiency in differing techniques, both conventional (lure) as well as fly fishers.
A fabulous and well run trip with great logistics, terrific camps, accommodation and food and as for the fishing - the album speaks a thousand words.
Each and every angler caught their target species, plus a few more, and took fish to weights that would be difficult to achieve elsewhere, particularly with the Peacock Bass, with Steve taking a goliath at 24 1/2 lbs and Scott Mitchell from Oz taking multiple fish over the 20lb mark - Good going buddy.
